What began as a temporary role quickly developed into a passion for creating unforgettable experiences.

Now Director of Events, she oversees everything from intimate celebrations and elegant weddings to exclusive restaurant takeovers, bringing together creativity, meticulous planning and a personal approach to every occasion.

We caught up with Iva to talk about her journey – the challenges she loves most, why weddings still make her emotional and what makes No. Fifty Cheyne such a special place to celebrate.

You originally joined No. Fifty Cheyne as a hostess. How did you find your way into events?

Believe it or not, I originally planned to stay for just two months! I joined as a hostess, and at the time, events wasn’t something I had considered as a career. But as I started working more closely with the events team, I became fascinated by everything that happened behind the scenes.

I loved watching an idea develop into something real, seeing all the different elements come together and, most importantly, seeing the guests’ reactions at the end of it all.

There’s something incredibly rewarding about knowing you’ve played a part in creating a moment that someone will remember for years.

I think that’s when I realised this was much more than just a job for me. Looking back, I suppose hospitality was always where I was meant to end up. I just hadn’t quite realised it yet!

How does it feel being part of this new chapter at No. Fifty Cheyne?

I find it incredibly exciting. I’ve always loved a challenge, and I think change is such an important part of growing, both personally and professionally.

What excites me most is that we’re not simply making changes for the sake of it. We’re constantly looking at how we can elevate the guest experience, refine what we offer and make the restaurant even more special.

We’re very fortunate to have a team that genuinely shares the same vision. When everyone is working towards the same goal and takes pride in what they do, it makes such a difference.

What do you enjoy most about organising events here?

I love that no two events are ever the same. You can have an intimate wedding lunch one day and a spectacular full-venue celebration the next, and both require a completely different approach.

I particularly enjoy exclusive venue hires because they allow us to be really creative. There are so many elements to consider, from the guest journey and the atmosphere in each room to the flowers, menus, entertainment and all those little details that people might not consciously notice but absolutely feel.

We’ve had the privilege of hosting some incredibly high-profile guests and A-list celebrations. Naturally, discretion is a huge part of what we do, so I can’t share too much, but it’s always interesting how some of the most recognisable people are often the most relaxed and down-to-earth.

I enjoy the challenge of taking someone’s vision, however ambitious it might seem, and finding a way to bring it to life. I always say that my favourite part of the job is making the seemingly impossible possible.

What is one of the most ambitious things you’ve had to make happen?

We once had a request to bring a grand piano upstairs into our Drawing Room, which was quite an operation! It had to be carefully dismantled, transported upstairs and reassembled in time for the event.

And then there are days when we’re managing eight completely different events in a single day, each with its own timings, requirements and last minute surprises. Those are definitely the days that keep us on our toes.

Weddings are a big part of what you do. What makes them special?

I don’t think I’ll ever stop getting emotional at weddings, no matter how many I organise!

There’s something so beautiful about being trusted with one of the most important days in someone’s life. You’re not simply arranging a lunch or a dinner. You’re helping create memories that a couple and their families will carry with them forever.

What I particularly love is getting to know the couples throughout the planning process. By the time the wedding day arrives, you’ve spent so much time discussing their ideas, understanding what’s important to them and bringing everything together that you almost feel like a small part of their story.

And then you see them walk into the room, surrounded by the people they love, and everything suddenly comes to life. Those are the moments that make me love what I do.

The restaurant lends itself beautifully to weddings. Being so close to Chelsea Old Town Hall makes it a wonderful setting for celebrations afterwards, and the building has a warmth and intimacy that makes the occasion feel incredibly personal.

How do you make an event feel personal to each guest?

I genuinely believe that the difference between a lovely event and an unforgettable one is in the details.

For me, personalisation starts with listening. I want to understand who we’re celebrating, what matters to them and how they want their guests to feel.

Sometimes it’s something quite subtle, like choosing flowers that complement the stationery or creating a particular atmosphere through the table styling and lighting.

Other times, it’s something much more personal: a cocktail inspired by the couple’s story, photographs used as place settings, a favourite dish incorporated into the menu or a thoughtful surprise that the guests aren’t expecting.

I also love those little moments when a guest says, “I can’t believe you remembered that.”

That’s when you know you’ve done something right.

Ultimately, I want every event to feel like it could only have been created for those particular people, rather than something that could be repeated for anyone.

What do you love about working in Chelsea?

Chelsea has always been one of my favourite parts of London. It has this wonderful balance of elegance and familiarity. You’re in the heart of London, surrounded by beautiful architecture, galleries and restaurants, yet there are still these quiet little streets where everything feels tucked away.

There is a special sense of community. Over time, you begin recognising familiar faces, getting to know our regular guests and building relationships with the people around you.

I grew up somewhere where knowing your neighbours and feeling part of a community was very important, so I really appreciate finding that same feeling here.

And I have to admit, I’m quite spoiled when it comes to my office! I work from the Drawing Room upstairs, and looking out towards the Thames and Albert Bridge is a pretty wonderful reminder of how lucky I am to work in such a beautiful place.

And when you’re not organising events?

I love spending time with my friends, playing tennis, shopping or going out for a lovely dinner and a glass of wine.

Music has also always been a big part of my life. I went to music school and used to play the piano, so whenever I get the chance, I love sitting down at my aunt’s piano and playing again. It’s something I find incredibly relaxing.

I also live close to Battersea Park, so I spend a lot of time walking around there.

There’s actually a particular bench just across Albert Bridge that I love. It looks back towards the bridge and the river, and it’s one of those places where I can sit for a while, clear my head and appreciate the quieter moments.

When your working life revolves around creating memorable moments for other people, I think it’s equally important to appreciate the simple ones in your own life.

QUICKFIRE

Dinner party or dancing? Dancing, without a doubt!

Dogs or cats? Dogs. Always, always dogs!

Favourite dish at No. Fifty Cheyne? Steven’s Beef Wellington with truffle mash. An absolute favourite.

Favourite cocktail? Espresso Martini. A classic for a reason!

Dream event to organise? An extraordinary wedding overlooking Lake Como. Beautiful flowers, incredible food, live music and a setting that takes everyone’s breath away.

Best event planning advice? Stay calm, think ahead and always have a solution. Things won’t always go exactly to plan, but what matters is how you respond. The best events aren’t necessarily the ones where nothing goes wrong; they’re the ones where the guests never have to worry about a thing.

Planning a special occasion? From intimate celebrations to exclusive events, Iva and the team would love to help bring your plans to life. Get in touch at events@fiftycheyne.com to start planning.

A new chapter is underway at No. Fifty Cheyne, with General Manager Maryia helping to shape the restaurant’s next chapter.

Warm, instinctive hospitality sits at the heart of her approach – remembering a regular’s favourite table andmaking sure every guest feels completely at home. We caught up with Maryia to talk about life in Chelsea, what makes Fifty Cheyne special and what she likes to get up to outside of work.

What were your first impressions of Fifty Cheyne?
What really attracted me was that the restaurant already had such a strong identity. It’s a beautiful restaurant in an incredible location, but more importantly, it has history and a very loyal local following.

When I first walked in, it didn’t feel like a typical restaurant. It felt almost like someone’s home. I loved the idea of protecting everything people already value about it, while bringing some fresh energy to the next chapter.

You’ve recently moved nearby. How are you settling into Chelsea life?

Very easy to get used to! It has this lovely combination of being polished but still quite relaxed. I’m discovering that Chelsea is dangerous for someone who enjoys beautiful restaurants, beautiful shops and walking everywhere with no particular destination.

What is it that makes the restaurant feel special?
It has that rare ability to feel special without feeling too serious. You can dress up and celebrate something important, or come in for Sunday lunch with your dog. Either way, you feel completely at home, just with someone else doing the cooking and washing up!

Is there anything you’d particularly like guests to rediscover about No. Fifty Cheyne?
It has that rare ability to feel special without feeling too serious. It’s a place people choose for birthdays, weddings and other celebrations, but equally somewhere you can drop into for lunch, an early dinner or a drink in the Ruby Room. I’d love it to become part of people’s routine as much as somewhere they celebrate milestones.

What’s the secret to making guests feel genuinely looked after?

For me, it’s about making people feel completely at ease. I want guests to relax, stay longer than they planned, order another bottle (or dessert) and completely lose track of time.

I have a brilliant memory for the little things – your favourite table, what you drink, your dog’s name, probably what you ordered last time. For me, that’s the fun of having regulars. Eventually they stop feeling like customers and start feeling like part of the Fifty Cheyne family. I’m loving getting to know the regulars already.

What are you most excited about over the next few months?
There’s a lot happening, which is exactly how I like it. We’re bringing fresh energy to the restaurant, continuing to evolve the menus and planning some exciting events over the coming months.

I’m especially looking forward to Christmas. Fifty Cheyne was made for that time of year. Give me a full restaurant, Champagne flowing and a little organised chaos and I’m very happy.

Describe your perfect Chelsea evening.
A walk with my dog, Loki, a great dinner, and a smooth whisky afterwards and my phone staying suspiciously quiet.

What does switching off look like for you?
Probably much quieter than people would expect. I love spending time with Loki, playing the piano, reading and cooking at home. Hospitality is naturally very fast-paced and social, so outside of work I really value slowing down, switching off and enjoying the quieter things.

I’m quite a homebody. I can spend a week surrounded by hundreds of people and then be completely happy spending my day off cooking at home with my dog beside me.

Quickfire

Favourite drink? Whiskey
Breakfast or dinner? Dinner, definitely.
Wine or cocktails? White wine – an oaky chardonnay
City or countryside? City, with occasional escapes to the countryside.
Early morning or late night? Late night – occupational hazard.
Favourite Chelsea spot? The river, especially when it’s quiet.
Dream dinner guest? Aryna Sabalenka. I love her energy and mentality. She’s incredibly competitive and focused, but with so much personality. I think she’d be brilliant fun to have around a dinner table.

Come and meet Maryia and the team at No. Fifty Cheyne. Join us for lunch, dinner, Sunday roast or drinks in the Ruby Room.

A new chapter is underway in the kitchen at No. Fifty Cheyne, with Executive Chef Steven Connolly at the helm.

With around 20 years in kitchens and experience spanning the likes of Ronnie Scott’s, The Ned and The Orrery, Steven brings with him a love of simple, ingredient-led cooking, generous hospitality and food that lets great produce speak for itself.

We caught up with him to talk about his approach to the menu, life in Chelsea, the importance of a happy kitchen and what he’s looking forward to over the months ahead….

You’ve joined No. Fifty Cheyne at an exciting point in its story. What are you looking forward to building on?

It’s already such a well-loved neighbourhood restaurant – I’m looking forward to becoming part of that and getting to know the people who come here regularly.

For me, the best restaurants are the ones where people feel known. You know their names, their dogs, what they like to drink, and there’s that feeling of coming back somewhere familiar.

How would you describe the way you like to cook?

Simple, ingredient-led cooking. For me, it’s about sourcing really well, cooking things properly and letting the produce shine.

Food should feel generous and considered, but never overcomplicated for the sake of it.

I also think dining out should give you something you wouldn’t necessarily recreate in quite the same way at home, whether that’s the quality of the meat, the dry ageing, the sourcing, the technique or even the amount of butter that goes in the mash!

What are you looking forward to bringing to the menu as we move into autumn?

I’m really looking forward to following the seasons more closely.

The chicken and leek pie is already one of the bestsellers, and that sums up a lot of how I like to cook – familiar, generous and properly made. The filling will change regularly through the year as the seasons move on.

There’s also a Chicken Kiev coming this autumn, which is a bit of a staple of mine, and I’d love to explore more seasonal game too, using things like quail and venison in ways that still feel approachable.

The grill is also a big part of my style. Great produce, simply handled, with the quality of the ingredients doing the work.

How are you finding Chelsea so far?

It feels very neighbourly. When the sun is out, people are walking their dogs and saying good morning to each other, plus you’re so close to the river while still being tucked away from the King’s Road.

I grew up in Dorset, close to the sea, fishing villages and countryside, so I think I naturally gravitate towards places that have a slightly slower pace and a real sense of community. Chelsea has that, which I really like.

What makes a great kitchen team, in your view?

A happy one. I’ve always believed that if the chefs are happy, the food is better, and if the food is better, the guests are happier too. For me, it’s about saying hello, saying thank you, treating people well and making sure everyone feels part of what we’re doing.

Was becoming a chef always the plan?

Not at all. I took a catering course when I was about 14 or 15 because I wanted to learn how to cook for myself.

I started working in kitchens alongside my A-levels and just never left. It’s been about 20 years now.

Over the years, what’s shaped the chef you are today?

I think your food should show your journey. Every chef I’ve worked with, every kitchen I’ve been in and every technique I’ve learned becomes part of the way you cook. I don’t think you need to erase those influences to create an identity. They’re what made me the chef I am.

Sunday lunch is a big part of life at No. Fifty Cheyne. What does your perfect Sunday look like when you’re not here?

If it’s cold, to be honest I’m cooking a roast at home. Beef, Yorkshire puddings, the lot. If it’s sunny, it’s a long walk in the countryside that accidentally always ends at a pub.

And when you’re off duty, what’s your ultimate comfort food?

A good risotto or pasta. Amatriciana is probably up there. As a guilty pleasure, you can’t beat a really good fried chicken.

Quickfire

One ingredient you couldn’t live without? Butter.

What’s always in your fridge? Lots of cheese.

Dessert of choice? Tiramisu. Any time, any day, anywhere! (Plug: Now included on our set menu, available Wednesday-Friday lunchtime and Monday – Friday 5.30pm – 6.30pm)

Negroni or Martini? Negroni.

City or countryside? Countryside

Beach or ski? Absolutely beach.

And finally, what do you hope guests feel when they leave No. Fifty Cheyne?

That they’ve eaten really good food, been properly looked after and want to come back.

That, to me, is what a restaurant should be.
